Builders rally against home renovation cover

The State Government is aiming at making it easier for licensed builders to afford the insurance they need to undertake home renovations. As of September 1, insurers will have to publish premium rates and disclose reasons for refusing or limiting building cover. The Government has also confirmed that another insurer, which may be Lumley Insurance, is considering offering the speciality insurance cover that is compulsory in NSW and compensates consumers when a builder fails to complete building work or performs defective work. More premium rate falls and greater protection for builders has failed to satisfy builders' lobby groups, who will push ahead with the rally outside Parliament on Thursday.
