Shutdown threat over Walter dues

Sydney construction sites may be shut down by the end of the month if the NSW Government doesn't ensure sacked workers from the Walter Group collapse are paid out or re-employed. This came after Walter Group staff criticised their treatment by the Federal Government and KordaMentha, the administrators. Building site union delegates met in Surry Hills to discuss strike action and pledged to raise $250,000 to help Walter Group employees on the pickets. The Carr government has been accused by Andrew Ferguson, The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union's state secretary, for not auditing the Walter Group before awarding them contracts and failing to make sure half finished jobs were completed.
