Manhole covers and stormwater grates from Mascot Engineering

Maybe it's a sign of desperate times, but manhole covers and stormwater
grates have become hot property literally. Thieves are stealing the covers to cash in
on a surge in scrap metal prices.
From Bombay to Bankstown the phenomenon of disappearing manhole covers is a worldwide
problem. In Shanghai for example more than 1,500 manhole covers and drains have
disappeared since February, killing at least eight people who fell into exposed
stormwater drains.
Bankstown Council in Sydney is concerned the incidents of stormwater grates being stolen
in the area will, like Shanghai, result in car damage, personal injury or death.
Each grate fetches about $10 as scrap but costs ratepayers in excess of $300 to replace.
Mascot Engineering have offered a bolt down facility on their grates for a number of years.
Originally they where popular in schools and playgrounds to prevent children from injuring
themselves, now they're being used to combat theft.
Mascot offer a range of bolt down options, from security systems suitable for prisons to
J-Bolts. We can even custom manufacture a system to retro-fit to existing installations.
As testimony to Mascot's solid security features, they have supplied prisons from Silverwater
in Sydney to the Middle East's Dubai Central Jail.
Whether you're replacing a missing grate or doing a new installation, Mascot Engineering
has a grate and a bolt down system to suit - don't let your money go down the drain.
