Altro Suprema Safety Flooring from Altro APAC

It works for FoodWorks
With over 710 supermarkets, food and convenience
stores spanning Australia, FoodWorks is Australia's
second largest leading independent supermarket
retailing group, generating in excess of $1.35 billion
in annual sales.
Not only do they claim to be 'closer to their
customers' because their owners and operators are
part of their local communities, but they are also
very careful about staff conditions and duty of care.
And because of the ultra-competitive nature of the
grocery business, they must be very conscious
about cost control.
Recently, the owners of the new store at Portland
NSW chose Altro safety flooring as their floor
material. Behind the delicatessen counter they used
Altro KR12-30 Oyster as this is the most slip
resistant safety flooring available and is commonly
used in this environment to reduce staff accidents.
However, in an Australian supermarket first, they
also chose Altro Suprema, in the light and bright
Pegasus colour, throughout the rest of the store.
Altro Suprema has an entirely different design feel
without the tell-tale 'sparkle' usually associated with
safety flooring. The remarkable secret behind Altro
Suprema's great looks is a transparent finish, which
gives an impression of 'depth' to the flooring
surface.
Altro Suprema and KR12-30
As the use of safety flooring is not at all common
for 'front-of-house' areas, we asked store owners
Ian Burke and Peter Hayman a few questions
about their design choice.
Altro: Why did you choose Altro Suprema and
KR12-30?
FW: Primarily because of the duty of care for our
staff and customers gained from it's low slip
properties. It is also low maintenance (no polishing
or buffing) and it has a significant impact on Public
Liability Insurance. Real cost savings.
Altro: Why did you choose an R10 slip rated floor
when you only have to legally provide an R9
product?
FW: If we used an R9 we would have to provide
floor mats, which not only add an extra $118 per
month for changing and cleaning expenses, but
they also are a trip hazard.
Altro. How did the cost of the construction compare
against your budget?
FW: We actually came in under a very realistic
budget. It took 2 years of planning to ensure
everything was right. Altro offered longer warranties
compared to your competitors, which over the life
of the building gave us significant savings.
Altro: How have your staff and customers
responded to the new floor?
FW: All of our staff and many customers have
commented favourably on this flooring and are
impressed that we are "trying to keep them safe".
