SolarSpace aluminium components - design freedom

By combining the patented Danpalon Glazing system with aluminium design components, Solarspace have created a roof structure that requires minimal framing.

While traditional roof structures require a roof framing system of rafters with purlins or battens, the new connection system enables large spans of interlocking roofing panels for sloped, arched and gable applications without the need for any substructure.

This has been achieved by a new aluminium connection system for the Danpalon sheets that sits on top of the roof locking all panels together and providing a flush ceiling like finish on the underside that allows the transmission of light.

The sloped or skillion design is engineered for free spans of up to 3.5m having a continuous aluminium connection at the wall or fascia as well as on an outer beam. The gable design can span 6.0m using a special aluminium ridge connection section and attachment to outer beams. This system is fully adjustable to suit any slope so matching any existing roof is easy.

By using the Solarspace system, the need for screw fixings through the sheeting is eliminated, giving a clean appearance. Screws in other roofing materials can introduce stress with continual expansion and contraction causing noise generation and waterproofing problems. Stress has also been identified as a significant problem with roof sheeting as this is what causes premature ageing with the sheets becoming brittle. This cannot happen with the SolarSpace.

Instead the patented positive lock connection system provides a positive mechanical lock between the sheets while still allowing freedom of movement, a crucial factor in ensuring long life of the sheeting.

Danpalon panels are available in a range of colours including clear, bronze, grey, opal and the new heat reflecting Heatstop.
