Custom steel fabrication by Lonsdale Sheet Metal

Lonsdale Sheet Metal was formed on 7th March 1976 as a privately owned Australian
company specialising in the manufacture of rain water tanks. The co-founders were Merv Riches
and Gerry Widdison. The company was started on Lindsay Road, Lonsdale and then moved to Donegal
Road, where they re-located twice, before moving to 53 O'Sullivan Beach Road and then finally,
in 1981, to the current premises at 40A O'Sullivan Beach Road.
In approximately 1987, the company decided to change direction and move away from the manufacture
of rain water tanks and focus on becoming a jobbing workshop. The main focus was still using
galvinised products; however mild steel and other coated products became common place. Further
down the track, aluminium and stainless steel were introduced. Lonsdale Sheet Metal employed 7
people including Merv and Gerry. On 13th October 2000 the company was purchased by Andy and Julie
Galpin and has since grown to 15 people.
We now work largely with aluminium, stainless steel, galvanised steel and mild steel. We consider
ourselves custom fabricators having an extensive client base from the tuna farms of Port Lincoln
through to the newspaper printing presses of Sydney, whilst continually helping the fine wineries
of South Australia. We are committed to achieving the best results for our clients that are
practically possible and with an end result we can all be proud of.
