Automated Sun Tracking Blind System from Blinds by Derrick Sambrook

AUTOMATED SUN TRACKING SYSTEM
The Blinds by Derrick Sambrook Automated Sun Tracking System (A.S.T.S) is a central controlling system for window treatments.
Operated from a dedicated computer, the system's software tracks the sun according to mathematical data and moves the building's automated window blinds in accordance with sun position and solar intensity.
How it works
- Building plans are imported into the system
- The system locates the building site on the globe and the building itself relative to the compass (e.g. south elevation faces 180°)
- The system activates automation based on:
- Position of the blind on the building
- Location of the blind via coordinates
- Time of the day
- Date
Before blinds are moved, sun intensity and wind speed are checked via an RQ weather station (positioned on the roof of the building) before moving blinds.
Checks are performed hourly (or at any specified time) and blinds are moved to the most optimal position for glare and heat reduction. This function can be overridden if required.
Benefits of A.S.T.S
- A.S.T.S can assist in securing a Green Star rating for buildings
- During standby mode, motors draw zero current power consumption (0% emissions in standby mode)
- Results in lower building emissions due to the reduced need for heating and cooling systems
- Can be integrated into existing building management systems
