Remedial Concrete Tank Repair & Protection by Complete Acid Protection

NYSTAR Reactor Smelter - Port Pirie

Poly-Tech's "Complete Acid Protection" system was able to meet the requirements of Nystar's design brief with an effective and long term remedial & protective solution.

Their Port Pirie site had smelter reactor tanks that often leaked corrosive materials severely damaging the concrete tank columns and bases. Poly-tech was brought in to assist in the decision to innovate or detonate.

Firstly we had to identify those areas along the tank column and tank base that required remedial repair. Grit blasting was then carried out to remove those cancerous and acid contaminated areas so we could prepare the structural steel reinforcements.

Secondly we reinstated the existing reinforcing plus included new reinforcing to a new concrete base that was boxed out approximately 150mm outside the existing columns and approximately 300mm deep. Repairs we carried out to all exposed reinforcing by jack hammer and we applied 110 EpoCem bonding & Mono Top 615 HB cementious concrete repair mortar.

Finally the repaired areas were primed with Sikafloor 156 epoxy primer and a finish of N25 (20mm) used for the aggregate concrete on the new base.
