NEWS ARTICLE ARCHIVESBeauval Limestone Available from The Good HouseAmong the variety of limestone that France as to offer, the Beauval (also known as Beaumaniere in the USA) is probably the most known worldwide because of its distinct character. Colours vary from light to mid-honey beige, with a unique speckled grain. The majestic ochre-brown veins are produced by iron oxide, and create true mineral landscapes. This is a perfect stone for residential flooring, pool surround, fireplaces and façade cladding.
Available finishes: Honed: a smoother surface, lightly polished, perfect for interior paving. Bush-Hammered: achieved with a special hammer, this finish creates an irregular relief suitable for interior and exterior. Brushed: using a metal brush, this action removes the softer part of the stone and wears out the surface. The look is similar to that of antique finishing. Split Face: rough surface with an uneven face, mostly used for outside where it is appreciated for its non-slip quality. Aged: achieved manually, it looks like it had been used for ages. A must for classical projects. Pillow edge: edge is rounded mechanically to give the aspect of a pillow. Sandblasted: this action enhances stone grain and makes the surface less slippery. Cathedral (raked): achieved with a tool similar to an axe, this finish was widely used in the middle age for the construction of European cathedrals, hence the name. This is our fireplaces favorite. |
