Lightweight Acoustic Boundary Walls from Modular Wall Systems

lightweight acoustic wall extension

Bunnings, Manly West, QLD

Challenge
A Bunnings store at Manly West in QLD was located right next to a retirement village. They already had a concrete retaining wall built along the perimeter of their loading dock. However, upon acoustic assessment conducted by the local council, Bunnings was required to add at least 500mm of wall extension to the existing concrete wall, in order to be compliant. Due to the existing footing design, a lightweight addition was really the only viable solution.

Solution
Modular Wall Systems utilised the lightweight, composite panels AcoustiMax 75 for this project. A purpose made support structure also had to be designed as the standard post system could not be used. High grade steel rods were inserted through the composite panels which were then set into the concrete wall below. The steel rods were then bolted on the top and covered with flush capping.

This solution matched the existing style of the concrete wall seamlessly without affecting the structural integrity of the wall. The 600mm high by 240m long wall extension was installed within 4 days ensuring the client could continue with their daily operations - without causing disturbance to the residents in the retirement village.

Innovation is part of our DNA and the Bunnings, Manly West project demonstrates our ability to find a fit-for-purpose solution.
