Safety Tactiles for Disabled Access from CTA Australia

SureSteel Tactile indicators from CTA Australia

At 160 years old, the Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of Victoria's oldest and most familiar institutions. With the assistance of CTA Australia, the new entrance to the foyer of the well known facility, which forms part of a multi-million dollar redevelopment, is both esthetically pleasing and safer.

The distinctive, modern entrance is now easier to locate and angled so as to invite visitors and patients into the building. The bright, light-filled space funnels people into a rejuvenated shopping precinct style foyer, which fans out between both the Royal Melbourne and Royal Women's Hospitals.

CTA's contribution to the project enhances the unique style of the entrance, while at the same time ensuring the new areas conform to the Disability Discrimination Act (1992). The Hospital has always been there for Victorians in times of need, and now CTA makes certain that all people, including those who are infirm or who have disabilities, can access the hospital safely and independently.

The new entrance to the hospital features SureSteel Tactile indicators with stepped side face profile and concentric ring top surface. These tactiles mark both the foot and top of stairs, plus changes in gradient along the ramped sections of the entrance. They will withstand the wear and tear of this high traffic area as they are manufactured from one solid piece of 316 stainless steel, thereby ensuring the tactile head will never detach from the anchoring sprigot.
