How to Apply Polyboard Render by JPS Coatings

Polyboard Render comes in a dry powder form and is ideally used with low absorbency substrate materials such as pre-coated polystyrene sheets and expanded polystyrene sheets. This premixed cementitious base coat is made up of a carefully controlled formulation consisting of cement, washed silica sand, and powder additives, ensuring water resistance and excellent adhesion. The only thing required to produce a smooth paste with Polyboard Render is clean water. This paste has minimal drying shrinkage.

Before applying Polyboard Render, make sure that the substrate is clean, dry, and free from any substances and particles that could affect the adhesion of the render. After all, preparing the surface is imperative and always good building practice.

Pour in one bag (20 kg) of Polyboard Render in a dry bucket and add in 5 to 5 ½ Litres of clean water. Ensure that the Polyboard render is properly mixed with a power stirrer or any kind of mixing device in order to avoid lumps and a smooth, creamy consistency. A bag of Polyboard render is enough to cover 6-8 m2 of the surface substrate. The mixture should be left to settle for 5 to 10 minutes. Adding excess water is not recommended as it may cause delaminating or cracking.

The Polyboard Render should be applied using a hawk and trowel, commencing at the bottom moving upwards. When cement render is applied in a layer with a thickness of 4 mm to 6 mm, optimum results can be achieved. Remember that priming and adding JPS Bonding Agent (2 parts bonding agent: 5 parts clean water) is necessary for extruded polystyrene application.
