Landplan biodegradable erosion control matting - Jutemaster®
Jutemaster® was developed in collaboration by the manufacturers U.B.F.
Pty Ltd and the Qld Dept of Primary Industries. The object of the exercise was two-fold,
firstly to develop a 100% biodegradable matting that could be used for erosion control and
secondly to develop an organic mulch blanket that would be effective for weed suppression.
Jutemaster® T.M. (Thick Mat) is a heavy grade product, used to suppress weeds, and promote
growth of desired vegetation. Its densely matted construction reduces unwanted broadleaf
weed growth as well as many narrow-leaved plants.
It is in the initial period of plant establishment that the matting is most effective by
reducing weed competition, retaining moisture, halting erosion and allowing the selectively
planted stock to colonise the area and gain a foothold. By using Jutemaster® you can
eliminate the need for mulching and reduce maintenance costs associated with plant establishment.
Jutemaster® F.M. (Fine Mat) is a lighter grade product used to retain topsoil and establish
seed. Fine Mat is laid over the top of the seeded area, protecting top soil from water and
wind erosion while promoting a moist micro-climate for seed germination.
Because both grades of Jutemaster® allow air and water to pass unimpeded through their
construction, they enable the soil beneath to breath, promoting the growth of desired plants
while reducing evaporation and minimising watering requirements.
