Schindler Lifts Australia - no compromise on safety

At Schindler there is no priority higher than the safety of those who travel and work on its equipment. As part of an ongoing commitment to passenger and employee safety, Schindler has embarked on a global safety program known as 'Confirmation of Periodic Safety Inspections' (CPSI) to ensure that 100% of its maintained passenger lifts are certified as safe.

In addition to observing all relevant codes and regulations, Schindler is proactively carrying out essential safety tests and signing off that 100% of its maintained lifts comply with all applicable internal and external safety standards - an industry first. CPSI is a seven step process comprising over 70 individual tests and checks on components including:

  • machine brake;
  • landing doors;
  • car door electrical contacts;
  • safety gear and speed governor;
  • hoistway slow down speed monitoring devices;
  • safety circuit; and
  • in-car communication device.

Every lift is inspected every year and a random sample of lifts are audited by an international audit team to ensure quality. For facility managers and building owners this means confidence and peace of mind.

Since launching CPSI in 2007 all passenger lifts in Schindler Lifts Australia's portfolio have undergone CPSI checks and have been certified as 'Safe'. "The CPSI program is very rigorous and uses a lot of resources in the way it evaluates safety but we are not willing to compromise on safety," said Chun Noor, National Technical Compliance Auditor. "I think of it this way, if a member of my family was travelling in a lift I would want to be completely certain that it was safe. Passengers travelling in a Schindler lift can have this confidence," Chun continued.

All Schindler technicians who carry out the CPSI tests are certified after a stringent training and assessment program. Only those technicians who obtain a satisfactory pass will be authorised to carry out the tests.
