Flyscreens for French Doors Sydney from Artilux

Screens for French style doors have always been somewhat clumsy in appearance and defeat the purpose of having stylish and good looking doors. Fortunately, Artilux offers a range of solutions to screen French doors not just based on size but more importantly on how you choose to use them in your home.

For instance, do you open just one door at at time? Do your doors hinge inwards or outwards? Are they doors you only use for ventilation?

When it comes to available solutions in screens for French doors, there are a few things that you must be asking yourself.

Single or double screen
Generally speaking, a double screen is visually more aesthetic and matches better a set of French Doors: the door set looks "balanced" as you have one screen on each side of the frame. On the other hand, one screen across the whole opening is good for smaller French doors: when you open both doors you have an uninterrupted view as in no screen handles meeting together.

Having said that, choosing whether to have a single or a double screen also comes down to how you use your French Doors and how wide is the opening. Most people use one door all the time, some people open both doors all the time and some others open one door most of the time and occasionally both doors.

Barrier free entry
French doors are usually located in a high traffic area, either an entry door or an access to a patio or alfresco area. This might bring the issue of the bottom track of the insect screens becoming a barrier. Fortunately there are solutions at hand:

  • One is that the tracks can be easily recessed into the floor - a clean and neat alternative-however, expensive.
  • If you do not want the extra expense, we can offer you two systems with very narrow bottom tracks:
    - Retractable Chain Glide (it features a bottom guide - more than a track - which is just 5 mm tall).
    - Allegro Pleated: the bottom track is just 11 mm tall.

Retractable or Pleated?
Both options offer a good and suitable solution. When it comes to screens for French doors, neither is better than the other; both have "pros" and "cons" depending on the application. Here are some features that might help you decide between the two:

Visibility of the screen:

  • Retractable fly screens are less "visible" when extended because the mesh is flat.
  • Pleated screens offer good visibility from a distance - from about 1.5 metres or more from the screen - and become more apparent as you approach it (it is less likely that you or one of your guests walk through it). However their presence is very discreet and the vertical lines of the pleats give an elegant touch to the opening.
