In a new move, Carter Holt Harvey has decided to tap into these skills and form a cross market technical team to maximise an already leading team of professionals. Hank Bier has been appointed as Manager of Technical Development, to put flesh on the strategy that Carter Holt Harvey have to provide 'Unrivalled Technical Capability.'
This vision is a global one where the unrivalled technical capability of Carter Holt Harvey can be put to use cross-market and a global 'technical team' can pool its expertise, delivering better products and services to end-users all over. One example is formwork. The development of a formwork system for Asian customers, with one of Carter Holt Harvey's technical support providers, Timberbuilt, is now being applied in Australia. The new team will focus on bringing the best building solutions to all markets. Also, building on the skills that Carter Holt Harvey has in each market, Bier will lead a team that will link the service to customers with the latest research and development of LVL products. Carter Holt Harvey already have several projects funded in universities and research institutions that either provide new information about their products, or will lead to the development of new products. Research on the ?re properties of LVL will provide data to '?re engineer' the safety of LVL structures. Research on floor systems will bring Carter Holt Harvey products new levels of performance and economy. The concept is that the technical team will bring new ideas and systems to the customer quicker, with full design details, and thoroughly researched engineering. The new look technical team includes Ross Davison, an engineer known widely in New Zealand for his contributions to the Timber Design Society, as well as his support for the Carter Holt Harvey product range. Alan Ross is working on the development and application of formwork systems, and the design and delivery of larger commercial structures made from LVL. Gabriela Lecour has extensive international experience across a range of structural systems and materials. She brings this to bear on detailed engineering support for Carter Holt Harvey products in New Zealand. Michael Murphy applies his years of experience to the technical support of the residential market in Australia. Together with Timberbuilt and other technical staff working in the mills and around the globe, the depth and knowledge that can be applied to a range of building challenges is extensive. Carter Holt Harvey will be plugging into this wealth of experience and according to Bier: "It's going to be fun� the team is looking forward to getting in amongst it... we think there are some tremendous opportunities."
