A quaint old-world church hall has been the meeting place for the local Apostolic Church of Queensland faithful in Tarampa. However, after nearly 105 years of service to the community it was decided they needed something a little bigger. And the new church hall certainly is bigger! It required 48 roof trusses, spanning a massive 17 metres each. Oversized trusses can cause problems for some, but were all in a day's work for licensed MiTek fabricator, Trussmaster (Qld).

'The architect and builder were both a bit concerned at the sheer size of the trusses - but we input all the data into our MiTek 20/20 program and were able to demonstrate to them (in full 3D detail) how everything would come together,' said John Cannard, Technical Manager with Trussmaster. 'We could also factor in wind loadings...a feature which impressed both. Oversized trusses usually require larger timbers for top and bottom chords but aren't overly difficult to manufacture.'
