Intensive Green Roof at Rushcutters Bay

Leaky roofs can lead to more serious problems very quickly and where the problem is well established, sometimes a more innovative solution is needed.

Resolving an ongoing water leak through the roof of a building at Rushcutters Bay into office space below was a matter of urgency and it had to be taken care of while also addressing the existing concrete that was condemned due to concrete cancer.

The issues stemmed from a roof garden situated on the building and while numerous individuals had been approached separately to take care of the problem, none had been successful. After deciding that a holistic approach was needed, landscape architect Mark Harper at Atlantis Design was engaged to run the project.

Using Elmich waterproofing and green roof products, Mark successfully refurbished the roof garden to its former glory while addressing the leakage issues. The team used VersiPave to support the paving slabs over the waterproof membranes and SpiraPave decking supports around the pool area.

In the garden itself, VersiCell was used to line the planters to ensure that rainwater drained efficiently from the boxes, ensuring the effective drainage of rainwater from boxes and preventing heavy rainfall overwhelming the planter boxes. This helped avoid the previous problems from ponding water that had caused so much leakage.
