In-Slab Radiant Heating and Cooling System from Hunt HeatingSMCT Springvale, VIC The Clarence Reardon centre designed by GHD Architects, is a state of the art, carbon neutral function centre, florist and cafe, purpose built to allow the cemetery to better meet client needs. The architecture compliments the surrounding Sugar Gums and native gardens, via a design system of reflection, contrast and shape. The centre achieved carbon neutral status through employing several sustainable construction technologies. One such technology, was selecting a thermally broken framing system for the façade. Hunt Heating alongside our exclusive European trade partner Uponor were involved in the concept, design and supply of an in-slab radiant heating and cooling system. Uponor manifolds and multi-layer composite pipes are able to circulate hot or cold water while laid in a concrete screed which sits over the structural slab, maximising the benefit of the thermal mass in the building. Water flowing through this system is heated by Immergas condensing gas boilers and cooled by an air cooled chiller. The radiant heating and cooling system uses much less energy than other options and has the added benefit of providing optimum conditions for cemetery visitors.
