JPS Coatings Primer

JPS Coatings Primer is a water based acrylic coating material, formulated using pure acrylic emulsions that help condition the substrate porosity of a surface. They are used as a preliminary layer of coating on surface substrates or materials before the actual application of the chosen paint. Directly applying paint onto the unprimed surfaces may lead to premature peeling of paint and development of wall cracks.

The water-based acrylic coating enhances the adhesion and durability of the paint. Also, JPS Coatings Primer properly seals the pores in permeable materials, therefore, prolonging the life of the paint and improving the overall appearance of the structural walls.

Enhanced aesthetic is not the only benefit of using water-based acrylic coatings. JPS Coatings Primer has a relatively fast drying formula, which enables applicators to save valuable construction time. It is also a breathable coating material that allows the passage of water vapour, the main culprit of premature peeling of paint.

How to Apply the JPS Coatings Primer?

JPS Coatings Primer can be used on off-form concrete, fibre cement sheeting, glass reinforced concrete, plasterboards and cement render. When applied correctly, the water-based acrylic coating provides excellent adhesion and seamless surface finish for long term use.

1. Surface Preparation
a. Inspect the surface. Remove tie wires, nails, steel, and all other forms of metal objects.
b. Clean and dry the surface. Ensure the working area is free from all forms of powder residue, oil, release agents, bond breakers, and other contaminants that may impact the Primer's adhesion.
c. Fresh cementitious substrates must be left to cure for seven days before applying the Primer. There must be less than 15% moisture wood equivalent in the surface when using the Primer. This precaution ensures maximum coating performance of JPS Coatings primer.

2. Primer Application
a. There are different ways to apply the water-based acrylic coating. The applicator may use a roller, conventional or airless spray. Brush should also come in handy, as it is ideal for applying the Primer in tight areas and around openings.
b. It is advisable to carry out applications at temperatures above 7°C and below 30°C. Also keep in mind to not apply the Primer under the full sun, and hot, windy conditions.
c. Refrain from thinning the water-based acrylic coating or using it over damp substrates.
d. The primed surface should be covered and protected from frost and rain for a minimum of 24 hours.

3. Surface Coverage
a. The coverage rate of JPS Coatings Primer is estimated at 10m2 per litre.
b. Several factors, such as the method of application and conditions at the time of application, may affect the practical spreading rate of JPS Coating Primer.

4. Drying or Curing Times
a. The water-based acrylic coating material is surface dry 30 minutes after its application.
b. The working area may then be overcoated 2 hours after the application to ensure maximum function and adhesion. However, drying may take longer under lower temperature or higher relative humidity rate.
