High quality blind fabric from Living Shade to reduce heating costs

With the heaters on we are often asked "how effective is aluminium in reducing heating costs?" We know about 40% of energy is lost through average windows in a house with single glazed windows.

The U Value
This is a measure of the insulation capacity and here we are comparing our three main products, Ombra, Mood and Optic. The more aluminium used, the greater the insulation capacity is. Also, it is important to have 'good quality' aluminium and then the tighter the fabric, the more effective it is.

Insulation is a factor that sometimes is neglected when choosing window covering products. However, the savings on heating are sometimes substantial in cold climates. U Value describes the heat flow through the glazing per unit of time and area when the difference in temperature between the two sides of the construction is one degree, given in W/m²K.

For example, if the U Value is 4.0 without a blind - with our Ombra as a blind, it becomes 2.6. A 35% reduction.

Tests done in Toluca Mexico shows the reductions under single glass. With a normal blind fabric, the savings are about 25%, but with Svensson aluminium, you can see they can be as much as 50%.

Summary
A better result is obtained by using more aluminium and higher quality fabric. If you would like any further information, please call or email us. If you would like energy calculations done for a room or building we can assist you in the energy program, www.parasol.se.
