Viridian Renew Clear self cleaning glass at Bankstown CBD
bus interchange

Bus and rail users are playing their part for the environment by avoiding excessive motorvehicle use. Which is why they should be encouraged at every twist and turn of an often tortured daily commute.

This swing towards public transport is as much a response to pain avoidance of the pump and congested roads as it is the superior qualities of public transport. One suburban Sydney council though has read the mood of commuters and has made the transit experience infinitely more pleasurable and effective.

Bankstown Station successfully fuses its rail and bus components into a fully connected social entity that elevates it into a lively, social space.

Designed by Michael Davies of Tompkins MDA, Sydney, the $8.5 million project involves wholesale landscaping, re-routing of roadways and has brought to life an otherwise unremarkable suburban shopping strip. Spare steel work crowned with a filigree of high performance glazing helps convert a tangled, uninspired site that now sees the light.

Canopy roof glazing fabricated from 17.52mm toughened laminated glass, comprising a layer of 6mm Viridian Renew Clear (self cleaning glass) toughened, 1.52mm Grey PVB Interlayer and 10mm Viridian VTough glass with a Brilliant White Seraphic dot pattern. Glass in balustrades is 19mm Viridian VTough clear glass.
