RCID - TouchGo™ from Kaba

Kaba TouchGo

Kaba, the leading technology provider of high-quality access solutions, has now come up with a world exclusive that will be a breakthrough hit. The Kaba TouchGo™ electronic locking system allows doors to be opened without having to pick up a key or access card. By merely touching the door handle, the lock recognises whether or not the person is carrying an authorized Kaba TouchGo™ transponder on their person either in the form of a key fob or card holder. This is made possible by the new RCID identification technology, which will make possible many new convenient solutions for us in the future.

Kaba TouchGo™ opens doors with just a touch.

You are familiar with this: It is raining, your hands are full with shopping bags, you have your mail under you arm and you are standing in front of a locked door. Naturally, your key is deep in your pocket and you know that you will not get into the house without getting wet or straining yourself in the process.

Scenes such as this will soon be a thing of the past. Thanks to Kaba TouchGo™, the new master locking system from Kaba, in future you will only need to touch the door handle and the lock will automatically recognise you without delay. After you let go, the authorisation is cancelled and the door relocks. All you need for this is to carry a Kaba TouchGo™ transponder on your person.

Like a key, only without a key

RCID technology (resistive capacitive identification) was developed by Kaba. Micro-signals are transmitted to the recognition unit via a data carrier. The carrier of a Kaba TouchGo™ transponder can transfer the identification signal to a receiver electrode - in our case the door handle. This happens intentionally and selectively; the transponder doesn't have to be presented or activated. This provides a high level of comfort for the user: no unnecessary searching, free hands and all with the high security standard that you expect from a Kaba master locking system. It doesn't matter where the user places the Kaba TouchGo™ transponder-in the pocket, jacket or on the belt.

RCID uses the natural electrostatics of the body. The specific absorption rate is much less than with a cell phone and thus completely harmless. Crystal clear: Kaba TouchGo™ is now a real alternative for new construction and renovations in both commercial and residential real estate. It does away with the interaction between the key or transmitter compared to a purely mechanical or wireless solution. And compared to a biometric access control system, Kaba TouchGo™ has the advantage that the transponder can be assigned to your guests and used on a temporary basis. The best part is that Kaba TouchGo™ functions as a complete standalone solution, but it also can be seamlessly integrated into the Kaba world of digital RFID products and thus the CardLink™ environment of online systems.

RCID: More than the basis of a new Kaba master locking system Kaba TouchGo™ is just the beginning for RCID technology. Let's take a look at what the not-too-distant future holds: With your transponder in your pocket, you leave home one morning, open the door to your car, drive to the office and pass through the security door. With coffee in hand, which you paid for directly from your employee account, you go to your desk and simply touch your computer, which recognises you immediately. And all that without ever taking out a key, pressing a transmitter, inserting a coin or remembering a password. Entire neighbourhoods, residences, schools and offices can all be equipped with Kaba TouchGo™. People can go through doors, open cabinets, and use elevators all without using a key.

Back to the here and now. To Kaba TouchGo™ The RCID chip and its technology have been developed, tested and patented. Kaba presented RCID technology for the first time at the 2007 Genf Automobilsalon in the "Rinspeed eXasis Concept Car." The first products and solutions from Kaba with the appropriate Kaba TouchGo™ name were presented at Security 2008 and will be available on the Australian market in 2010. Now we can take part in the future, in tomorrow's world today.
