Stone Panel Cladding Fixing System with StoneClip

Uniseys Building on the river in Brisbane

The building itself was inindated in the last big flood and has since been fully refurbished. The external cladding was undertaken by Mr David Mullin of Tile Corp Pty Ltd.

The panels that are installed are 20mm thick Black Granite approx 1400mm x 600mm in size and were installed with 2 x 8mm adjustable Stoneclips with 2 fixings through each backplate into the substrate to give the clip more strength. The cavity behind the panels ranged from 30mm down to 10mm, so the adjustable suited the project with its flexibility of being able to carry 50 kilo's/ clip @ 15mm cavity and down to 26 kilo's @30mm cavit. The panel sizes weighted in at around 50 kilo's average, so none of the fixings were over streached in their loadings.

The above image shows a building very close by that has suffered the indiginity of having its panels come loose and remedial action had to be done to make them secure. A round headed disc and pin had to installed into the joint of every 400mm x 400mm x 20 mm tile to save them. What a mess it looks, well it is not what the owner wanted when he selected his stone cladding.

On panels that size with the installation of 1 x 6mm adjustable or 1 x 15mm set size Stoneclip installed with the glue there would have been no expense later and it does not slow the installer down when putting the clip in place because as soon as he has installed it the panel on top is ready to be installed because you dont have to wait for the epoxy to cure or glue to set. The other big plus with Stoneclip is that it is not seen later.
