Dux Hot Waters' prodigy is groovy as well as green

The Dux Prodigy gas water heater combines a five star energy rating with a stylish exterior which represents a thorough rethink of the traditionally utilitarian design of domestic water heaters.

Dux Hot Water has launched a new water heater designed to appeal to home owners wanting a hot water solution that is both stylish and environmentally sound.

The exterior styling of the Prodigy system represents a thorough rethink of the traditionally utilitarian design of domestic water heaters.

"With the launch of the Prodigy system, home owners can now install a water heater every bit as attractive as contemporary laundry appliances," says Dux Hot Water's Marketing Services Manager Paul Willer.

The contemporary look of the new hot water system is the work of highly-regarded Melbourne firm Outer Space Design, which has won awards for its tapware designs.

"Dux asked us to come up with an exterior design that reflected the high quality of the company's technology and avoided the "bolted-together" appearance of traditional water heaters," said Outerspace's senior designer Paul Taylor.

The Prodigy system features a unique semi-circular casing made from Colorbond steel in a matt metallic shade inspired by contemporary kitchen appliances and consumer electronics.

"The system's design is intended to complement the trend towards minimalism, with clean lines and smooth surfaces," said Paul Taylor.

The Prodigy system's moulded plastic top cap is designed to soften the traditional block geometry of water heaters while having the practical benefit of directing dust and water away from metal edges.

The new model also features a flame-shaped moulding on the side, designed to reflect gas technology and elegantly house the air intake and outlet.

Dux Hot Water says the Prodigy system uses the latest gas control technology to offer home owners a five-star energy efficiency rating at a reasonable purchase price. It is available in both natural gas and LPG-powered models.

The Prodigy system has two additional features which make it unique among five-star hot water systems.

It features dual handed plumbing, which means quick and easy installation when replacing an existing system. The Prodigy system also features EzyGas external gas connection, which further reduces plumbing time.

The Prodigy system has a large output, with a first hour capacity of 333 or 371 litres (depending on model) at a 45 degree Celsius rise.

"The Prodigy system is evidence of Dux Hot Water's increased focus on technological innovation," says Paul Willer. "It's our next step towards developing a full range of intelligent energy systems."
