LogicWall structural walling system by AFS Products Group for the UNSW AFS recently supplied AFS LogicWall to a 188 unit Student Accommodation project in Kensington NSW. Constructed in just 22 weeks, this 8 storey building for the University of NSW used AFS LogicWall system on both corridor and facade walls to a total wall area of 5200m². Engineer "The AFS wall system is advantageous to both the builder and structural engineer as compared to ordinary masonry or conventional reinforced concrete walls. The system allows reinforced concrete walls be constructed without the need for labour intensive vertical formwork. The construction of the AFS wall system is also less labour intensive than a reinforced concrete block wall. In terms of structural advantages the vertical load carrying capacity of AFS walls is significantly greater than masonry. The ability of the walls to be horizontally reinforced allows the walls to be designed to span between supporting columns, eliminating the need for costly transfer beams. The design of AFS walls is made easy by the AFS design booklet which is well set out and provides clear procedures to determine the design capacities." Builder "The New College building required a structural solution which was fast and flexible. Faced with a fixed completion date, and a short procurement period, AFS was chosen as the structural solution to meet both challenges. In addition to its speed of construction, AFS met the criteria for a robust finish suitable for use in student accommodation and provided the quality of external finish required. AFS as the loadbearing walls, also allowed a reduction in the capacity of the tower crane required had traditional precast panels been used. Overall, AFS was an integral part in the success of the project from a time, cost and quality perspective."
