Flooding Solutions Advisory Group floodgate for Wallsend businesses

Flooding Solutions Advisory Group Australia has come to the aid of Wallsend's business community, offering a significant, one-off 40% discount on flood barriers.

The barriers will be demonstrated and the offer outlined at the Wallsend Town Committee's meeting on Monday night (June 22) at the Wallsend Enterprise Centre in Dan Rees Street from 5.30pm.

Flooding Solutions Director Keith Jackson said he had been apprised of the suburb's unique problems by the company's local representative and has been persuaded to help.

"With our discount and the Federal Governments 50% tax incentives for small business, it should be affordable for every business in Wallsend," Mr Jackson said.

Flooding Solutions recently commissioned two systems in Lismore, a Dutch Dam to protect part of the CBD and a series of individual Floodgates. The company has also provided its international award winning Self Raising Flood Barrier for use in a Newcastle CBD site.

Mr Jackson believes that for individual businesses in Wallsend the UK developed Floodgate will prove the most appropriate. It is a re-usable, telescopically expanding barrier that can be deployed on a standard doorway by one person in two minutes, has been performance tested to heights or more than a metre and provides protection equivalent to 50 sandbags.

The barrier comprises a neoprene covered boxed tube metal frame which expands both horizontally and vertically. This frame sits in a 7mm thick rubber envelope to create a waterproof seal that does not require permanent fittings.

Floodgates are manufactured to suit individual openings up to one metre. For larger areas Flooding Solutions Australia has developed a stanchion that joins several Floodgates together.

A multi-gate unit such as this was installed by Ryde Council to protect its public library and Westfield chose Floodgate to protect entrances and walkways at its new shopping centre extension in Figtree Wollongong.
