Viking's general
purpose pumps

Viking Pump is renowned

pumps for the trickiest applications,

Sometimes though,
this ability can overshadow
the fact that
Viking also produces a
line of basic, general
purpose pumps which
are suitable in standard
guise for a wide
variety of pumping
operations. So when a
customer enquired about a
very cost-effective pump to
supply glycerine through a
spray bar, Kelair's engineers
recommended a Viking
432 series general
purpose pump.
The Viking 432 series is a
positive displacement
pump and has a fixed volume
per revolution, which
combined with the right
motor combination, delivers
a consistent flow rate
across the entire pressure
range of the pump.
For the customer's application
Kelair specified the
second smallest pump in
the 432 range, the 'F'
model, and recommended
using the Carbon Ni-Resist
Buna standard mechanical
seal. Kelair keeps most
models of the 432 series in
stock at head office, Sydney,
which reassured the
customer as they knew that
parts would be readily
available if required.
The pump's standard construction
of cast iron and
steel gears was deemed
suitable for the customer's
application. The pump was
also fitted with the 432
series optional pressure
relief valve.
To cope with the pumped
liquid's viscosity, the pump
was direct-coupled to a
710rpm electric motor, enabling
the pump to run slow
enough to allow the liquid to
enter the pump chamber
without problems.
This pump and motor configuration
delivered a flow
rate of 3 L/min to the customer's
spray bar.
The pump was installed
and has been running so
well that the customer
has bought two more
432 series pump sets,
one 'F' model and one 'C'
model (the smallest
pump in the 432 range),
for use on other applications
the 432 series excels,
pumping oils.
