A Moving Gold Coast Story With EJ Solutions

Stage One of Queensland's first light rail system is poised to officially open for service and will commence moving people around the Gold Coast, operating a 13-kilometre network from Griffith University at Helensvale to Broadbeach, passing through the key activity centres of Southport and Surfers Paradise.

Constructing a light rail system to link fast growing commercial, retail and recreational centres in Australia's sixth largest city has been complex.

Chairman John Witheriff said the mammoth effort was attributed not only to the light rail employees but to the almost 400 suppliers they have contracted for goods and services since the beginning of construction in early 2012.

"With 95 per cent of goods, services and employees locally sourced, Gold Coast light rail has contributed to the local economy significantly in not only its three-year construction phase with McConnell Dowell and Bombardier but also into its 15 year operations phase with KDR Gold Coast."

Managed by our Gold Coast Sales Executive Paul Underwood, EJ has played an integral role in supplying McConnell Dowell with a selection of access covers that have proved ideal for a variety of project specifications.

The innovative BRIO cover was chosen as ideal for stormwater applications while modular covers also by EJ were used on an extensive network of electrification pits across the rail system. These covers included some 2, 4 and even up to 9 part custom builds.

Along platform and public movement areas, McConnell Dowell specified a large inventory of brass-edge covers where practical efficiency and aesthetics were required.
