New oxygen-enriched pool sanitisation system a real alternative to chlorine Hydroxypure system: natural combination of hydrogen peroxide and ozone.
Domestic and commercial pool owners now have a new sanitisation choice that's great news for swimmers with allergies and asthma - or those who just want a real alternative to chlorine.
The Hydroxypure system, created by international swimming pool and water treatment equipment manufacturer Waterco Ltd, is chlorine free and oxygen enriched, and it's soft and gentle on the skin. Plus it's the only sanitisation system to receive the seal of approval from the National Asthma Council Australia as part of its Sensitive Choice program.
"The Hydroxypure system is a natural combination of hydrogen peroxide and ozone - and there is 50 per cent more oxygen in a Hydroxypure pool than a normal chlorinated pool," says inventor Nick Briscoe, who was inspired to come up with a chlorine free pool to enable his youngest son Dalton, who suffers from eczema, to swim in the family's pool.
"The Hydroxypure system is great news for those looking for an alternative solution to chlorine, as it's salt free, odourless, free of taste and you don't need to shower after swimming."
For pool owner Robert Chan and his five-year-old daughter Jordyn, who both suffer from moderate to severe eczema, the Hydroxypure system has meant they can once again enjoy swimming in their backyard pool.
"We totally avoided swimming for years, because our eczema was badly triggered by chlorine," Robert says. "But since we've been trialing the Hydroxypure system, we can now swim without our eczema flaring up.
"It takes the stress out of swimming. We can relax after getting out of the pool instead of going through the stressful process of trying to get a young child into the shower and covered in cream."
Natural formulation
Waterco has simplified advanced drinking water treatment technology and successfully applied it to treating swimming pool and spa water.
Hydroxypure sanitisation is based on the Advance Oxidation Process (AOP), which combines Perox, a chlorine free sanitiser (H202) and hybrid ozone (O3) to create one of the most powerful oxidisers in nature. The AOP has the superior ability to remove bacterial threats more effectively than any other oxidisation process currently available on the market.
Perox is a formulated blend of hydrogen peroxide, which is simply water with an extra oxygen molecule, and this has been developed to work in unison with the Hydroxypure system to ensure perfectly sanitised water at all times.
Hydrogen peroxide is formed in nature to control bacteria that grows all around us. For example, during a lightning storm, hydrogen peroxide is created to combine with rain and naturally cleanse the environment.
"For many years, hydrogen peroxide has been widely used in health treatments, from mouthwashes to antiseptic cleaner and antifungal treatments," explains Mr Briscoe. "In fact, health practitioners all over the world regard Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy as one of the greatest."
The use of ozone and Perox in harmony increases active oxygen levels in the water. This synergy ensures the safety of the water environment without creating harmful chemical by-products.
And Hydroxypure's hybrid ozone technology stimulates the action of the sun by converting ambient air into ozone - free from impurities. The result is a safe, clean and effective way of using the extra oxygen molecules to keep swimming pools and spas properly sanitised.
Fully automated sanitisation
The Hydroxypure system, which can be installed in new swimming pools or retrofitted to salt or chlorinated pools, continually sanitises a pool by testing the water and automatically maintaining optimum levels of residual sanitiser. Furthermore, it cleverly responds to different demands such as pool parties, hot water, plus rain and water top ups. In fact, the Hydroxypure system automatically adjusts dosing requirements to suit.
The pH level of a pool's water is also automatically adjusted, ensuring optimum water quality and protecting both swimmers and the pool from unhealthy swimming conditions.
Sensitive Choice approval
"The Hydroxypure system ticked all the boxes when it came to assessing its eligibility for Sensitive Choice approval," says National Asthma Council Australia Partnerships Manager, Adam Trumble. "Being free of chlorine, a known skin and respiratory irritant for many people, it offers relief to those unable to use traditional chlorine pools."
The Sensitive Choice program encourages manufacturers and distributors to be asthma and allergy aware. "It recognises companies which develop products that may be better choices for people with asthma or allergies. The blue butterfly logo helps consumers easily identify products and services that may reduce asthma and allergy triggers," explains Trumble.
