Innovative Architectural Concepts: Paving the Future of Architecture and Design

DesignBUILD

Innovative architectural concepts share the limelight at DesignBUILD RAW - the collaborative project between DesignBUILD and the top architecture and design universities in Australia. DesignBUILD RAW aims to put the promising talents of students on full display, bridging the gap between the industry and the academe. In the same way, DesignBUILD RAW serves as the periscope through which students can visualise the future of the industry and their futures in it.

Reflecting on DesignBUILD RAW 2017
Having launched to critical acclaim in Melbourne 2016, DesignBUILD RAW enjoyed even more positive reviews during its second run this 2017. DesignBUILD RAW 2017 marked its Sydney debut, held alongside DesignBUILD Expo 2017 last May 3-5 at the newly redeveloped International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney.

Participating schools of DesignBUILD RAW 2017 included the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), the University of Sydney, and the University of New South Wales (UNSW). The students were asked to submit innovative architectural concepts for the design of the Incubator Pavilion, the two seminar theatres, and the central bar spaces.

DesignBUILD RAW 2017 highlighted the importance of promoting innovative architectural design concepts among the academe. The various activities exposed students to real-life labour within the architecture and design industries, allowing them to gain experience and reach a higher vantage point to navigating their career paths.

"We go through five years of architecture and very rarely have anything that's tangible," explained Paula Vigeant, UTS subject coordinator and DesignBUILD spokesperson. She is part of the 'FLEX' team from UTS who won the design for the Incubator Pavilion.
