Bushfire Prevention

Australia is a large and diverse country with varying terrain. Building in and around the Australian bush can place residents in grave danger of exposure to bushfires.

There are many ways to minimise this risk, however once a fire is out of control you should evacuate immediately. The New South Wales Rural Fire Service http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/ website should be monitored constantly, particularly on days varying from Severe to Catastrophic.

Many things can be done to minimise your risk:

1. Installing metal gutter guards to minimise leaf build up.
2. Keep your roof in good repair; particularly tiled roofs.
3. Eliminate gaps around doors and windows by fitting seals.
4. Install Australian standard security screen doors and window screens that meet all the current bushfire attack levels; Seconline steel mesh doors and screens meet the requirements for all Bushfire Attack Levels.
5. Cut back overhanging trees and shrubs.
6. Rake up all leaves or any other fuel debris.
7. Ensure hoses are in good repair and long enough to reach all the areas around your home.

The most important consideration is that you have completed your Bush Fire Survival Plan; this can be found on the NSW Rural Fire Service website.
