Folding Arm Awnings are retractable Awnings which extend your living area by protecting it from the harsh external sun. The Folding Arm Awning is ideal as a roll away cover for patios, decks, balconies or commercial applications such as cafes and restaurants. With a Folding Arm Awning you can create an outdoor area that protects against the sun or light rain.
The Folding Arm Awning can project anywhere up to 4m off the wall, depending on the width and type of Awning. The arms fold horizontally and are cantilevered out from the wall so one is able to walk around underneath the awning without walking into the arms. When retracted the space is free of any structure with no intrusive posts or beams.
Folding Arm Awnings can be mounted onto the face of a building, such as brick or concrete walls. When mounted on a brick wall several courses of bricks are necessary above the awning, for structural integrity. With the addition of a facia or eave bracket the Awning can be installed from the rafters of the roof when there are insufficient courses of bricks in the wall to support the awning.
A Folding Arm Awning can either be operated manually by using a crank handle or motorised by electric motor, recommended where the awning has more than two arms (greater than 6 meters in width). It can be operated automatically when combined with Sun and Wind Sensors.
The pitch angle of a standard Folding Arm Awning can be adjusted + or - 5° at the time of installation, adjustable pitch control via a crank handle is available on some models as an extra option. If sufficient angle can be achieved, the awning will withstand light showers but it should be considered as a sunscreen rather than as a retractable roof due to the wind restrictions. It should be retracted back whenever the wind seems to be moving the awning too much and should never be left extended.
