Get the Most Out of JPS Coatings Solid Plastering

The art of solid plastering goes by various names depending on which state you live in. Commonly known as rendering, it is the external application of cement to exterior concrete or brick walls through the use of hand tools or with the help of an automatic rendering machine. Although solid plastering is generally used on exterior walls, it can also be applied on interior walls.

Historical evidence shows that ancient solid plastering was done by coating mud over a framework of sticks and stems to enclose a protective structure and keep out elements of nature. The Roman times saw the transformation of solid plastering where a mixture of lime, sand, and volcanic ash was used to render external block walls, and also to create smooth and decorative interior walls.

Solid plastering is a process that has been a part of European tradition. It first made its debut on Australian soil during the early settlement period where most houses were made of stones and bricks.

The evolution of rendering has paved the way to a more modern approach in the process of solid plastering. Though some of the ancient techniques and methods are still being used to this day, the art of solid plastering is now infused with new methodologies, styles, patterns, textures, colours, and finishing products like sealants and coatings.

For more than 20 years, JPS Coatings has been providing major specifiers and homeowners with a variety of premium rendering materials.
