Eco Expo Asia - International Trade Fair on Environment Protection, 27 - 30 October 2006

Increased environmental awareness
People everywhere are waking up to the fact that we need to look after our planet and preserve its natural resources today so they will still be available tomorrow.

The world's population is growing at a phenomenal rate and is set to hit 9 billion by 2050. If future generations are to enjoy the standard of living we enjoy today, then action needs to be taken. This is the message we hear so often and more and more people are finally starting to realise that they can make a difference. From the family that recycles its bottles and newspapers to the government that implements measures to address global warming - environmental awareness is spreading fast.

Growth industry in Asia Pacific region
Countries in the Asia Pacific region have undergone considerable economic development over the past 10-15 years. With a growing portion of the world's industrial production now taking place in the region, the Asia Pacific countries are experiencing many problems faced by the West during the early stages of industrialization. Such problems include intensive energy consumption, waste generation, heavy use of materials and disease caused by pollution from chemicals. In order to sustain its current pace of economic development, the region needs to address these environmental issues sooner rather than later.

A number of governments in the region have placed environmental issues high on their list of priorities and are actively seeking viable solutions. This, combined with increased environmental awareness among businesses and consumers, means that the region's environmental industry is predicted to be worth an overwhelming USD110 billion by 2010.
