Galintel steel lintels from Weldlok Industries

Builders have a habit of referring to all galvanised steel lintels
as galintels. However, Galintel is actually the registered trademark of a particular
product, points out Galintel.
According to Galintel, the lintels above doors and windows are important load-bearing
components in brickwork, so it is essential to specify a product that is fully hot-dipped
galvanised to high rating. If builders are using genuine Galintels, they know they are
getting a product that offers quality, reliability and accountability.
Galintel advises people to look for the Galintel brand on the lintel as an assurance of
a genuine product which meets all relevant standards and is protected by performance
guarantee. Galintel hot-dipped galvanised steel lintels, with a zinc coating of 600 g/m²,
have been field-tested to comply with an R3 durability rating (Lintels rated R2 have a
zinc coating half as thick).
Steel construction products generally require little maintenance, but where the steel
is exposed to an external or corrosive environment it may become an issue. This can
result in corroded lintels, cracks in brickwork and, ultimately, irreparable damage to
the building.
If a quality product is used in combination with a suitable inspection and maintenance
program, the life of the building can be extended. According to Galintel, steel lintels
show good results in avoiding corrosion. That is because its lintels are protected by a
generous galvanising layer, including the ends of the product where corrosion often begins.
