Timber environmentally friendly flooring from Sydney Flooring

If you're a renovator or new home builder and looking for an environmentally friendly solution to meet your flooring needs, look no further than timber flooring. Timber is recyclable, carbon positive, sustainable and renewable making it an environmentally-friendly product choice.

"Using timber in building construction, including timber flooring, helps our environment in very important ways," says Bill Durkowyak, Founder of Sydney Flooring.

Growing trees absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide storing the carbon extremely efficiently which ultimately assists Australia offset its overall green house gas emission target.

"It seems incredible to think that by simply choosing timber floors over other flooring options you can help reduce green house gas emissions, but it's a fact and we all know that every little bit helps. For example one 25mm thick board has the same insulation qualities as a normal sized brick. This helps reduce the reliance on heaters & air conditioners," said Mr Durkowyak.

Growing trees are carbon positive because half the dry weight of a tree is carbon. This carbon remains "locked up" for the life of the wood even when it is used for building products or furniture and is only released into the atmosphere when the wood decays or is burnt. So when we choose carbon positive wood for house frames, timber flooring or furniture we're also lending a helping hand in climate change.

"When you consider the life of a timber floor can be well over 100 years, it makes timber flooring a very sustainable choice," said Mr Durkowyak.

"Additionally, people love to live with wood. Its warmth, colour, varied grains and natural beauty make it a versatile and practical flooring option for all style of homes from the most contemporary to the more traditional."

Sydney Flooring offers an extensive range of Australian hardwood timbers including Alpine Ash, Australian Beech, Blackbutt, Blue Gum, Brushbox, Flooded Gum / Rose Gum, Forest Reds, Grey Box, Grey Iron Bark & Red Iron Bark, Jarrah, Karri, Red Mahogany, Spotted Gum, Tallowwood, Tasmanian Oak and Turpentine among others. Sydney Flooring also stock Cypress Pine, Baltic Pine and Kauri Pine in a range of sizes.

"Wood is also extremely durable," says Mr Durkowyak. "It's resistant to heat, extreme cold, corrosion and pollution. Moisture is the main factor that needs to be considered to ensure optimum performance and that's where our trained staff can help guide you with your selection and explain any relevant issues to you."

Australian architects, designers and specifers are re-evaluating the role of timber as a renewable and versatile flooring material that clearly contributes to the sustainability of a home.

"Sydney Flooring remains dedicated to supporting good forestry practices under the principle of Ecological Sustained Forest Management," said Mr Durkowyak. "We encourage all renovators and new home builders to consider timber as their flooring option of choice."

"We source our flooring timber from Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) certified forests in Australia. AFS certified forests meet Australian Standard AS 4708-2007 which is the standard used to regulate issues relating to sustainably managed forests."
