Trend® Xtreme® Bushfire Windows and Doors range is now compliant to AS3959-2009 and AS1530.8.1-2007 - Construction of buildingsin bushfire-prone areas.

With the Australian urban population increasingly being pushed ever closer to bushfire prone areas the awareness and understanding of buildingloss through bushfire has taken a dominant and high priority position with authorities and researchers especially after such catastrophic eventsin 2003 in ACT and 2009 in Victoria.

The result of this has been the recent release of the new Bushfire Construction Standard AS3959-2009, which sets down minimum standards for buildingin bushfire prone areas. This Standard is now mandatory in Victoria and ACT with Queensland commencing in October.

The Trend Windows & Doors® Xtreme® range of Bushfire Window and Door products have recently been tested to the new Bushfire Constructionstandards (AS3959-2009 and AS1530.8.1 -2007). In a major breakthrough, the Xtreme® windows and doors range passed the standard test at the BAL 40level without the need for screens to be fitted to the fixed sashes. This will result in significant cost savings for the homeowner, when compared withthe deemed to comply provisions of the new standard.

This latest development is a result of Trend Windows & Doors® ongoing intensive research and development and extensive testing with the CSIROover the past 5 years, aimed at developing cost affordable window and door systems which will withstand the extremes of bushfire attack.

Trend Windows® Xtreme® Window and Door products, the first tested by the CSIRO under the previous standard in 2005, went on to become the clearmarket leader in bushfire windows and doors. The new Xtreme® Windows and Doors are now the first products tested at the CSIRO Laboratories testingfacility at North Ryde in Sydney, which has been set up specifically to test building products to the new Bushfire standard.

In houses, windows and doors are considered the most susceptible area to damage from bushfires. Many houses destroyed in bushfires in fact survive thepassing of the fire only to burn down later from embers and debris borne on the wind. Damage from either glazing failure or door system failure, allowsthe debris to enter the building causing ignition. This is why Trend® focused on the entire glazing system and through extensive research and development advanced the design of window and door systemsto withstand the most extreme of bushfires.

The Xtreme® Window and Door System, features break-through technology with the Patented Van Door® sealing system and Pyro-Protec™ Sealingsystems.

Trend® has combined the technologically advanced Xtreme® Window and Door system with Pyro-Protec® seals and glazing systems and standard5mm or 6mm toughened glass which keeps the system affordable. This window and door system is a cost efficient solution to a problem that is fast becominga national challenge. Double glazed energy efficient solutions are also available.

The Van Door® and Pyro-Protec® Sealing Systems, act to protect the home against wind, water, noise, dust, and bushfire penetration.Designed with security and performance in mind, the sliding window and door sash slides on an innovative smooth rounded sill and are securedwith concealed fixing points in the top rail.

Unlike most aluminium windows and doors, all Xtreme® windows are manufactured with a sturdy 65mm frame to provide greater strength and security.Xtreme® sliding, awning and casement window sashes are a substantial 55mm wide - reminiscent of the look of timber windows.

The extensive range of Xtreme® products includes window systems with Sliding, Casement, Awning, Sashless Double Hung, Bifold , Fixedlites in both standard frames and into Crestlite® Semi Commercial Frames. Xtreme Doors include Sliding, Hinged and Bifold in standardsystems and with the Crestlite® Semi Commercial frames.

With the ability to use combinations of products as well as large fixed lites it allows for significant design freedom. The Crestlite® system allows for fully operable windows of the same or even different types to be inserted into the same frame as fixed lites. This gives an aesthetic appearance that will compliment any project.

All metal window hardware is used to comply with the new Standard and insect screens are available for all windows and doors if required.

All Xtreme® products are also available with energy efficient Thermashield® options, which achieve low u-values ratings, to give extra protection and comfort to the house. These ratings are all available on the WERS (Window Energy Rating System) website and are all rated by the AFRC (Australian Fenestration Rating Council).

The Decowood® Wood Grain finish is another option available on Xtreme® products. This gives the protection of Xtreme® and the durability and low maintenance of aluminium with a true timber look for houses in bushfire areas where timber is now not available due to the provisions of the new Standard.

If a superior level of acoustic performance is required, Xtreme® Windows and Doors can be rated up to Rw39 for specific situations in a primary glazing system and even higher with secondary glazing systems.

Trend Windows & Doors® is the largest manufacturer of domestic windows and doors in Australia and has the most extensive range of products and styles in the Australian marketplace. Trend Windows & Doors® - Finding Solutions
