Car Park Ventilation Systems from Fantech

Ventilating car parks has become a little bit easier and more economical with the introduction of axial, centrifugal mixed flow jet fans from Fantech. The JetVent series provide impulse ventilation and operate on well-proven tunnel ventilation principles.

A series of small high velocity fans are used to produce a high velocity jet which thrusts against the air in front of the fan imparting momentum to all the surrounding air through entrainment as it diffuses. The volume of air entrained is significantly greater than the air quantity passing through the fan.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling is used to strategically place the fans to direct air movement through the car park towards the main extract fan intake points.

In this past this would have been achieved with mechanical ventilation systems and bulky distribution ducting.

Scavenge ducting is reduced or eliminated in impulse ventilation systems, meaning there is less resistance in the system compared to older mechanical ventilation systems. As a result smaller exhaust and supply fans and/or motors can be used, reducing the power consumption of the system. Energy use can be reduced further by using CO sensors to selectively operate fans.

The absence of ducting is also beneficial, providing greater visibility within the car park and can mean reduced installation and overall construction build costs.

In addition to removing harmful exhaust fumes from a car park and allowing fresh air to flow in, in the event of a fire the Jet Vent series of fans clear smoke to assist fire-fighters.

The use of impulse ventilation for car parks has a proven track record in Europe for providing benefits in terms of installation and running costs as well as providing protection to life and property in the event of a fire. Impulse fans have recently been added to the new Draft British Standard BS7346-7signifying that impulse ventilation is becoming the norm for car parks in the UK and other countries.
