Grip Guard Stair Nosings
Grip Guard stair nosings are designed to ensure that stairs are safe for pedestrians. The two major requirements specified by Australian Standards are:
- Adequate slip resistance on the leading edge of the stair to avoid the risk of a pedestrian's foot slipping over the step, leading to a slip and fall injuries. The stair nosings must have at least 50mm of anti-slip material on the top of the stair tread.
- Luminance contrast of stair nosing in comparison to the colour of the stair avoid the risk of a pedestrian 'missing' the step, lead to a trip and fall injury. The stair nosing must be of a contrasting colour to the stairs on both the leading edge of the stair and the top of the tread.
Grip Guard supplies and installs ProStep aluminium stair nosings with polymeric inserts for indoor applications requiring an R-10 slip resistance. For outdoor applications, a ProStep stair nosing with a carborundum insert, with an R-13 slip resistance rating, is suggested.

Made of galvanized steel, the stair nosings are coated with silicon carbide (carborundum) to provide maximum slip resistance in wet conditions.
