Residential properties that qualify for the Six Star rating are projected to use 24% less energy through an efficient heating and cooling system. The Six Star standard was launched in May 2010 under the Queensland Development Code on sustainable buildings. It served as the reference point that applies to the overall thermal performance of Class 1 buildings, which includes newly constructed houses and townhouses. The energy efficiency rating standard also applies to retrofit projects.
