Foamex proudly offers EXPOL™ UnderFloor polystyrene insulation for efficient residential and commercial dwellings. The product development team at Foamex designed EXPOL™ for excellent durability, workability and insulation power with a minimum R-value 1.4 for timber floors. In action, EXPOL™ keeps heat out during the summer and in during the winter, leading to energy savings of up to 12%.
EXPOL™ allows for safe and easy installation in both new homes and retrofit applications. The underfloor polystyrene insulation can be easily installed by a professional or even a do-it-yourself enthusiast in six, simple steps:
1. The joist must be measured first by placing a ruler against one side. Underfloor joist sizes can vary, hence the EXPOL™ UnderFloor Easy Measure Ruler is recommended for accuracy and precision. The opposite joist will fall within one of the four-panel sizes. More than one joist can be measured to derive the needed panel sizes for the job.
2. If the panel is too wide, the appropriate concertina edge can be simply sliced down to oversize the panel by approximately 5mm, ensuring a tight fit.
3. The panel will be slid between the joists. The panel must be pushed up hard against the bottom of the floor to eliminate air gaps. A minimum gap of 150mm should be accommodated around metal heating flues, ceiling exhaust fans, and OA rated recessed down lights. For around brick and concrete chimneys, a minimum gap of 50mm should be left.
4. Upon panel installation, two (2) EXPOL™ fixings must be tacked in opposite corners to ensure the lifelong placement of EXPOL™ in the home. Available for purchase from Foamex, EXPOL™ fixings are manufactured from non-corrosive nylon with a stainless steel nail.
5. EXPOL™ Wireguard must be placed around cables and wires that come into direct contact with EXPOL™ before installation. EXPOL™ Wireguard is a waxed paper strip, available in 20m rolls from Foamex. A staple gun is not recommended for use in fixing the Wireguard. The applicator must exercise utmost caution in working with electrical wiring.
6. The panel must be cut using a sharp knife for installation over obstacles, such as pipework and plumbing. Difficult areas of the cut panel must be notched. For future maintenance, the applicator must leave a 100mm clearance around pipework and plumbing.
EXPOL™ UnderFloor insulation is fully compliant with the Australian Standard AS/NZS 4859.1:2002, citing the general criteria and provisions for materials used in the thermal insulation of buildings.
