Brass and copper tiles by Alloy

Brass Tiles
After the Copper (Chalcolithic) Age came the Bronze Age, followed later by the Iron
Age, there was no 'Brass Age' because, for many years, it was not easy to make brass.
However with the advent of high tech furnaces the amalgamation of the Alloys copper
and zinc are successfully melted together at the optimum temperatures to produce Brass.
Brass mosaics are a brilliant golden yellow tile (surface lacquer can be applied to
preserve this look), that can be used indoors and outdoors. Atmospheric exposure of
the brass tiles results in the development of a superficial tarnish film or the
formation of a thin protective green "patina" which, in itself, becomes a striking
feature. The brass tiles, however, will retain their original integrity for a lifetime.
Copper Tiles
Alloy Copper tiles are precision machined from solid copper. Over time they will
exhibit the beautiful oxidising hues for which copper is widely sought after by
architects and designers around the world.
The natural weathering of Alloy copper tiles is a direct consequence of airborne
sulphur compounds. This leads to a gradual change in the surface colour until
equilibrium is reached and the change is stabilized. The final patina depends on
the environment in which the tiles have been installed. Salt, moisture, sunlight
and orientation can affect the final unique colour. In general, copper changes in
hue from a natural salmon through a progression of iridescent pinks, oranges and
reds interspersed with brassy yellows, blues, greens and purples, russet browns,
grey's and finally to a blue-green or grey-green.
Copper mosaic tiles work just as well on the exterior as they do on the interior
and are perfect for water features.
