The Coleman Group was responsible for implementing the scrolling sign systems at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and the Telstra Dome for this AFL season.

This was the first season that scrolling signage was featured at both major AFL grounds.

The Coleman Group introduced scrolling signage to Australia in 1997, importing the worlds leading scrolling signage system from Europe, currently in use in over 50 countries.

Now Coleman supplies scrolling signage to the National Rugby League clubs, nearly all the National Basketball League teams including the Sydney Kings and Canberra Cannons, as well as the All Blacks and the big venues which host Test and one-day cricket matches.

Coleman Group Managing Director, Glenn Coleman, said that scrolling signs gave more than double the value per exposure over static signs.

Glenn's tips for an effective scrolling sign design are:

  • Use a dark background colour. White backgrounds can become unreadable with the ?ares from the television.
  • Keep the message simple.
  • Do not clutter the sign - make sure there is a lot of space between the logos, this gives strength to the message.
  • Legibility in terms of font size and style is also crucial.
