Brewers goes WELS - Brewers showers & tapware products are now supplied with a mandatory WELS label

What is WELS?

WELS is the National Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Scheme which will label many domestic and commercial appliances for water efficiency. The scheme is law and mandatory from the 1st July 2006 and replaces an existing optional scheme which featured Water Drops and "AAA" rating system. This new WELS scheme uses up to 6 Stars and shows the results of thorough testing of each product, the more Stars the more water efficient the product. It is therefore unlawful for Brewers to import or sell to retailers non WELS labelled products after 30th June 2006.

Brewers WELS Labels

From the 1st July 2006 all Brewers showers and tapware products (kitchen sink, bathroom basin and laundry) will be supplied with a mandatory WELS label.

Our WELS Licence Number is 0033 and the following labels will be inserted on the face of each product packaging.

Other WELS labelling

  1. For all Brewer products on display in Showrooms a WELS label swing ticket is available thru your Brewer Representative. This swing ticket or your price ticket must include in text form the WELS number of Stars and the Water Consumption.
  2. All new reprinted promotional material whether it be brochures, point of sale material, magazine ads or price lists will include our relevant WELS label information. Old material without WELS labels can be used until the 31st December, 2006.

How will WELS be enforced?

As our valued customer you can therefore be assured that all Brewer showers and relevant tapware products have undergone the rigorous testing for Australian Standards (QAS) and the laboratory testing and Government Certification and Labelling for WELS AS/NZS6400:2005. WELS will be enforced on a case by case bases. The WELS Advisory Team will monitor and audit all products at the retailer. Our retail customers must ensure that all relevant new products purchased from 1st July 2006 carries an authorised WELS label.

The Government Audit team can impose significant fines and penalties, withdraw the products and even advertise convictions.

Non compliant WELS product held at our retailer customers purchased before the 1st July, 2006 can still be sold at the retail point until 31st December 2006.
