Portable Field Telephone System (PFTS)
PFTS is a portable wireless telephone system for quick deployment in difficult situations
such as construction sites, mines and emergency/disaster sites. It may be interfaced with
local exchanges for connection to local and international networks.
The Portable Field Telephone System was initially developed for use by the Australian Defence
Force. A commercial version is now available and is designed around the Ericsson BP50 PABX.
The military version has been in use with the Australian Defence Force on recent overseas
deployments. The commercial version retains the wireless and portability features and has
the added advantage of being intrinsically safe - very important when operating in dangerously
volatile environments such as mining, shipping, enclosed warehouses and the like.
