NEWS ARTICLE ARCHIVESSandstone Veneer Wall Cladding from Stone DesignThe Cheese Room at Woolworths Double Bay The design team at Woolwrths Double Bay wanted to use a natural sandstone as the backdrop in the cheese room, they wanted a high-end product that didn't require a heavy structure to hold it, that was a real sandstone, that looked great & was functional. The Sydney colour Cladstone was just the right fit (thanks to the master applicator Alfred Ghantous), seeing it in real life is more spectacular than what images may show.
Special thanks to John Cordwell of Dry-Treat for looking after the Woolworths team & for specifying the most amazing sealer "EPID" as it passed every vigorous staining test that the Woolworths team can throw at it, completing what is now an outstanding design application.
Designers are always keen to use an Eco-friendly product like Cladstone: Cladstone sandstone veneer is excavated at 2-3mm thick instead of the traditional 40-50mm, this means a quarry that would mormally provide about 10,000 m2 will now provide approximately 100,000 m2. Indeed if the environmental footprint of a cut stone were that of an elephant, certainly in relative terms, the Cladstone environmental footprint would be that of a butterfly.
