All Carter Holt Harvey products are made from 100% plantation pine - a totally renewable resource 
Carter Holt Harvey manufactures and markets laminated veneerlumber (LVL) to the Australian, New Zealand and Asian markets. The mostcommon brands are Hyspan (used for structural beams) and Hybeam (anengineered I-joist). Both products are manufactured from 3 mm thick veneers ofradiata pine, bonded together with a phenolic resin. The radiata pine veneers are sourced from sustainably managed plantations inboth New Zealand and Australia. The manufacturing operation in New Zealand is carried out at the recentlycommissioned Marsden Point facility, and in Australia at Nangwarry, SouthAustralia. These mills have been established to maintain strict environmentalcontrols on amenity features and emission levels, in consultation with districtand regional council and EPA authorities. The adhesive used in the manufacture of LVL is produced from a phenolformaldehyde resin, which sets permanently under controlled heat and pressure.It forms a permanent bond that will not deteriorate or release chemicalcomponents under adverse moisture and temperature conditions (refer attachedstatement from the PAA). Timber construction has been internationally accepted as an 'environmentallyresponsible' choice. This can be demonstrated from a life cycle analysis of theeffects from the material resource, manufacture, construction, use and disposal. In addition, the technological base of LVL manufacture ensures that there is asignificant reduction in fibre resource (and subsequent disposal volumes) fromconventional timber construction.
