Legrand Australia's new wireless, computer-monitored, emergency lighting system, AXIOM™, hasbeen recognised at the 2006 Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association(AEEMA) Awards held recently in Melbourne.

Featuring a new-generation wireless area controller (WAC) which eliminates the need for cablenetworks, the state-of-the-art AXIOM™ was awarded a high commendation as the Best New Productin Electronics/Hardware.

Commenting on the Award and its significance for his company, Legrand Managing Director, GaryUren says, "This is a fantastic achievement which is the result of years of research and developmentand Legrand's commitment to innovation in the emergency lighting market."

Acknowledging the breakthrough development by Legrand engineers was Ian McFarlane, FederalMinister for Industry, Tourism and Resources - the department that was the official sponsor ofAEEMA 2006. McFarlane described Legrand as an innovative manufacturer that has made anextraordinary contribution.

AXIOM™ provides a robust and versatile wireless solution in emergency lighting that eliminates theneed to lay cables over open areas and through walls. AXIOM™ also offers site and buildingmanagers the ability to monitor and perform discharge tests remotely over the internet without theneed to be on site.

According to Uren, AXIOM™'s recognition at the AEEMA Awards will enhance Legrand's profile withinthe local market as a provider of cost-effective solutions. "Customers who previously thought theywere too small for centralised computer monitoring will be pleasantly surprised by the costeffectivenessof AXIOM™," adds Uren. Legrand engineers developed the technology so that eachAXIOM™ fitting also acts as a repeater, relaying information and providing 100 per cent coverageeven in difficult sites.

According to Legrand Product Manager, Eduardo Yudowski, AXIOM™ has a demonstrated ability tocover distances up to 70 metres due to its use of RF. It has also proven itself immune to all typesof electrical interference in difficult environments. AXIOM™ technology can be used in conjunctionwith Legrand's revolutionary Slide Connect G2 - a low energy consumption, LED-based, emergencylighting fitting. "This combination can offer a flexible solution for both, new and existing sites, creating a computerised and cost-effective emergency lighting solution," adds Yudowski.
