Certainteed double-glazed window systems - energy-saving option

The glossy cover of the booklet that glossed over the real energy issues.

WILL THE NEW GOVERNMENT BE MORE CLIMATE CLEVER?

Pardon my bias but I am adamant that properly built housing will save a lot more energy than putting lids on saucepans or reusing containers.

Yet judging by the Climate Clever booklet from the last Government, double glazing is a fine-print afterthought, preceded by pages of platitudes, including the classic advice to 'compost non-meat food scraps'!

To declare myself, I voted for the party that sanctioned this booklet. But I am also a corporate greenie, dedicated to energy conservation for every Australian household.

So I hope the new government will take advantage of this opportunity to encourage fair dinkum energy-efficient building in every new home or renovation.

Why do we need enormous base-load electricity plants? Because most of our houses are so poorly insulated against heat waves, depending on expensive air conditioning for relief. Over 7 million Australian houses have single glazed windows that do nothing for thermal insulation... nothing but waste energy.

Why do we burn so much gas in winter? Because most houses are draughty as well as poorly insulated.

How clever do we need to be to fix these simple things!

The sad truth is that most houses are energy disasters, and even new houses often fail to meet our current low standards.

Properly designed and built housing will be essential in our energy-hungry future.

And double-glazed windows are the most economical way to complete the insulation of an energy-efficient home.

Come to one of our workshops and discover how many energy-saving options are available to you. Afterwards, we can discuss your plans and ideas over a cuppa.
